Tzatziki sauce can be used as an appetizer or a side dish. It’s a very simple and refreshing recipe created with yogurt, garlic and cucumbers. Here is a recipe that I usually make at our home and it is inspired by original Greek recipe.
- 2 long or 4 small cucumbers
- 170 g Greek yogurt
- 0.5 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- salt and pepper
Instructions tzatziki sauce
- Wash and peel the cucumbers. Grate them into a bowl on a grater with large holes. Sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon of salt, stir and set aside for 5 minutes.
- Next, take the cucumbers in your hands and squeeze to eliminate the excess of water. Discard the cucumber juice and add minced garlic, yogurt, cumin seeds and lemon juice into the cucumber mash. Add some pepper and mix.
- Let the tzatziki sauce rest in the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes before serving. Taste and add more salt if necessary.
