Mussels with beer

Mussels cooked with beer are a typical Belgian recipe. The addition of the beer gives depth to the flavors making this a quick, easy and above all very tasty seafood dish. Can be served as an appetizer or main course.

Ingredients
- 1 kg cleaned mussels
- 15 g butter
- 1 celery
- 1 small onion
- 125 ml beer (I prefer amber or lager, but any beer will work)

Instructions: Mussels with beer
Clean the mussels by removing the beard and fouling, discard mussels with broken shells and rinse well in cold water.

Clean and slice celery and cut onion into julienne (long thin strips). Cook the vegetables for a few moments in melted butter.

Add the mussels and cook with lid on for about 3 – 4 min, stirring occasionally. Pour the beer in, stir and continue cooking for another 4 – 5 minutes without the lid.

Serve hot with some grilled bread with olive oil, garlic and parsley mix.
